Sølje jewelry, brooches or earrings with dangling spoons of silver or gold, is the national jewelry of Norway. Silver was believed to protect against sickness and evil spirits – “huldrefolk”. Baptism and marriage were common times of huldrefolk attack where a child could be swapped or the bride carried off and so brides wore many pieces of Sølje for protection as part of their bridal costume.
These earrings are an imitation of the true Sølje jewelry with sterling silver but at a fraction of the cost.
